Lastly, we will be reviewing the principles of trauma informed care and what they look like at Head Start.
I understand that massage therapy is not a substitute for medical treatment or medications, and that it is recommended that I concurrently work with my Primary Caregiver for any condition I may have. I am aware that the massage therapy student does not diagnose illness or disease, does not prescribe medications, and that spinal manipulations are not part of massage therapy. I understand that the person who will provide the massage is a student, training to become eligible to take the state licensing examinations. Massage students are supervised by an experienced Licensed Massage Therapist during the course, but are themselves not licensed. The massage provided is intended to enhance relaxation, reduce pain caused by muscle tension, increase range of motion, improve circulation and offer a positive experience of touch. The general benefits of massage, possible massage contraindications and the treatment procedure will be explained to me at the time my appointment is scheduled. I also understand that some conditions contraindicate massage and I may not be able to receive a massage from a student at this time.
