Policy
Head Start classes will have a safe physical and social environment that is conducive to learning and reflective of the different stages of development of each child. The class environment will help children develop emotional security and facility in social relationships. It is also an environment of acceptance that supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition.
Procedure
- Using The Creative Curriculum book and Physical Environment and Structure Checklist to set up indoor and outdoor physical environments that foster child development and learning and promote positive behaviors. (see Daily Schedule policy, Classroom Safety policy )
- Use Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) and principles from Circle of Security to promote a positive classroom social climate. (see Child/Adult Interactions policy, Supporting Social and Emotional Development policy)
This policy complies with Head Start Performance Standard 45CFR Section 1302.21, 1302.22, 1302.23, 1302.31, 1302.47
