Good evening, Head Start,
It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I must share some devastating news. The world lost one of its brightest shining stars today. Sami Allen was admitted to the hospital yesterday with influenza and, tragically, passed away this morning. This unexpected and sudden loss has left us reeling and struggling to comprehend the depth of our grief. Sami’s vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness touched so many lives, and the void left by their absence will be deeply felt by all who knew them.
This news has undoubtedly impacted us all deeply, and we understand the shock and grief many are experiencing. We want to assure everyone that we are actively working to establish comprehensive support systems during this difficult time. Our priority is the mental and emotional wellbeing of our employees, and we’re partnering with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to facilitate this. We will be setting up dedicated processing spaces at both the Grand and Central offices, providing a safe and supportive environment for those who need it. We are currently are reaching out to EAP and figuring out the details of this plan and will be sharing specific information about the resources and access protocols with you all as soon as possible this weekend.
What we know for sure is we will be cancelling having students in the classrooms for Tuesday.
The weekend is a precious opportunity to reconnect with what truly matters. Make a conscious effort to surround yourself with the people who fill your heart with joy and understanding. Their presence is a balm for the soul. Remember also to extend that same compassion inward. Be gentle with yourself, acknowledging the loss we all feel. Allow space for your emotions, both the pleasant and the challenging. This weekend, give yourself permission to simply be, to breathe, and to feel. Sending strength and love to you all, may you find moments of peace and connection in the days ahead.
Sami shining influence on this world and Head Start will continue to live on.
With much respect.
Charleen
