Classroom Environment (Physical & Social)

Policy

Head Start classes will have a safe physical and social environment that is conducive to learning and reflective of the different stages of development of each child. The class environment will help children develop emotional security and facility in social relationships. It is also an environment of acceptance that supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition.

Procedure

  1. Set up indoor and outdoor physical environments that foster optimal development in the 8 domains and promote positive behaviors. (see Setting up the Physical Environment policy, see Daily Schedule policy, Classroom Safety policy )
  2. Use Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and principles from Circle of Security to promote a positive classroom social climate. (see Child/Adult Interactions policy, Child Guidance and Behavior policy, Supporting Social and Emotional Development policy)

 

This policy complies with Head Start Performance Standard 45CFR Section 1304.21. (a), (c), §1304.53
